Great Southern Bioblitz | Orange Biodiversity Month

The Great Southern Bioblitz is an annual citizen science initiative undertaken across the southern hemisphere and this year there’s a site at Lake Canobolas.

As part of Orange Biodiversity Month, join Central Tablelands Landcare to listen, watch, hunt and scour the natural environments at Lake Canobolas.

Everyone is welcome. The new lakeside track and toilets are wheelchair accessible.

BYO morning tea and lunch, or grab some at the Lakeside Kiosk & Cafe.

Children under 15 must be accompanied by a responsible adult as we will be walking near water.

Please dress for the conditions and wear sturdy shoes. Bring a device and download the iNaturalist app to your device before you come so you can record your sightings.

Register online.

Orange Biodiversity Month is a month-long celebration of biodiversity in the Orange region, held in September.

This year we’re celebrating biodiversity wherever it occurs; in your backyard, your local parks or on your farm - in the day and in the night.

Check out the list of events below and make sure you tell your friends.

We're also working with local schools to create 'Buzzing Bees' - a native bee-inspired artwork at the Orange Cultural Precinct. Not only will you be able to see the artwork, but you can pose with it too. You’ll need to be quick – it’s temporary, so will only last a few weeks.

No need to book to pose with the buzzing bees. The Cultural Precinct is freely accessible to the public and located on Byng Street opposite Robertson Park. Check out Orange Regional Museum’s Animal Kin exhibition while you’re there.

Orange Biodiversity Month is brought to you by a unique collaboration of community, industry, and government partners including:

  • Local Land Services
  • Orange City Council
  • NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust
  • Central Tablelands Landcare
  • Orange Field Naturalist and Conservation Society
  • Environmentally Concerned Citizens of Orange.
