Rotational Grazing Systems

NSW Government-funded Catchment Action NSW program (2017/18 - 2020/21) was created to support the sustainable management of NSW’s natural assets and resources. Through this program, North Coast Local Land Services has been able to establish three Beef Focus Farms across the North Coast region to examine the changes in profitability and sustainability that arise from implementing planned rotational grazing systems that are optimal for a particular farm and the changing seasonal conditions.

The beef cattle properties, which are located in the Lismore, Kempsey, and Grafton regions, were selected through an expression of interest process and each production system is different in its scale and management.

The focus farms are 100ha each and have been set up with a planned rotational grazing system that matches the aims of the producer with optimal pasture production and carrying capacities.

North Coast Local Land Services and the producers will be monitoring the soils, pastures, grazing management records, and financial performance of the focus farms.
