Message from the Acting Chair

December 2018

Allison Harker, Acting Chair, South East Local Land Services

As a producer, I’ve been involved with Local Land Services as a customer since its inception.  In this time I’ve watched the progression of the organisation from the objective of being local and customer focused, to delivering real outcomes for land managers on the ground.

I joined the Board with enthusiasm in January 2017.  In this time I’ve been able to get a better understanding of who we are and what we do. It has been most pleasing to see the significant growth and maturity of the organisation, largely driven by highly skilled and passionate staff.

I would like to thank our departing Chair David Mitchell for his tireless work in making sure the structure and governance of South East Local Land Services was the right one for our customers. David, we wish you and your family well and thank you for your dedication to the organization.

During our Chair transition, David and I travelled throughout the South East meeting with customers, investors, stakeholders and staff. I appreciated the open and candid conversations we had regarding the programs that are performing well for our customers and also the areas where they would like to see more investment and improvement.

Ranging from the Snowy Mountains out to Boorowa, across to the South Highlands and along the Coast from Wollongong to Eden. The South East region is diverse in its geography, environment and land management requirements.

We have 26,000 customers who each bring their own philosophies and perspectives to their land management and production practices.

Acknowledging this diversity is an important step in delivering more targeted services to our customers and investors, which is where our attention will be focused over the next two years.

I’m looking forward to working closer with you all and wishing you a Merry Christmas (and Rain).

Regards,

Allison Harker
