New NLIS pig requirements - what you need to know

February 2018

New National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) arrangements for the identification and traceability of pigs came into effect nationally as of 1 February 2018.

This means that all land managers with pigs, whether that be 1 pig, 20 pigs a pet pig or a Christmas pig, need to be aware of what is required of them.

NSW DPI has prepared a fact sheet which covers the details of the changes and provides instructions, links and contact numbers to help you along.

Please note also that Local Land Services will continue to offer Crown Brands for pigs over 25kgs at the rate of $11 per pig.

If you have any questions about pigs, the NLIS or any other biosecurity issues please just contact your nearest Local Land Services office and ask for a member of the biosecurity team.
