Women in Grazing gathered in Gunning

March 2018

Annelies McGaw, Senior NRM Advisor

In early March Gunning played host to the second South East Local Land Services Women in Grazing event. This year’s event followed on from the successful inaugural event held in Crookwell last year.

Sixty women from across the southern highlands and tablelands, all with varying agribusiness backgrounds joined us on the day.

We all came together to build resilience in the local community and tackle a tricky and emotive topic; Succession, Transition and Communication.

Guest speakers Lyn Sykes and Darren Secomb, both experienced farming family facilitators, spoke at length about the importance of understanding the way you and the rest of your family communicate, about tailoring your communications for different types of communicators and the importance of always keeping communications channels open.

We were also lucky to have Teresa Dowling at the event. Teresa, an estate lawyer, was attending as a guest but was able to provide information and answer questions about legal aspects of estate planning.

A key message for those attending was that it is never too early or too late to start talking about these issues.

I’d like to thank everyone that came along, I hope you got as much out of it as I did.
