Celebrate World Soil Day on December 5

November 2018

Dr Katharine Brown, Senior Land Services Officer

World Soil Day celebrates the importance of SOIL to our society, environment, and economy. To celebrate World Soil Day, South East Local Land Services will be participating in Landcare Illawarra and Shoalhaven Landcare’s joint forum on SOIL.

Understanding Soil

Members of Landcare Illawarra and Shoalhaven Landcare will be invited to bring samples of their soil to the event, which will include a demonstration of basic soil tests that can be done by land managers.

Be the Solution to Soil Pollution

Soil pollution presents a global risk to food security, human health, and the environment. In honour of World Soil Day, there will be a short presentation on the 2018 World Soil Day theme “Be the Solution to Pollution”.

Soil Cake Competition

In keeping with World Soil Day tradition, the event will host a Soil Cake Competition (who doesn’t like cake?)

Soils and Vegetation of the Illawarra-Shoalhaven

The event’s evening session will include presentations and discussions on the soil and vegetation associations of the local region.

More information will be available on the Shoalhaven Landcare website http://www.shoalhavenlandcare.org.au and the Landcare Illawarra website https://www.landcareillawarra.org.au
