Peter Pigott, Regional Agriculture Landcare Facilitator

Over 20 farmers and Landcarers from the South East Local Land Services region traveled to Brisbane last week to attend the National Landcare Conference and Awards.  The conference explored the theme of “Building a Better Tomorrow” through speakers, posters and information booths across four key areas: Sustainable Agriculture, Community, Partnerships and Environment.

A common thread of ‘inclusiveness’ was present through the conference and the need for Landcare to continue to be inclusive of diverse perspectives, cultures, genders, ages and ways of doing.

National Landcare honours were awarded to grazier David Marsh (Boorowa), in the Individual Landcarer category and to Charlie Arnott (Boorowa), also a grazier, in the Bob Hawke award.

National finalists from the South East who also traveled to Brisbane were FROGS Landcare (Goulburn) in the Community Group category and Gary Cadwell (Crookwell) and John Ive (Yass) in the Innovation in Agricultural Land Management category.

The region was well represented with finalists, speakers and posters showcasing the effort and quality practices and programs on offer.
