Message from the Acting Chair

December 2019

Allison Harker, Acting Chair

Allison Harker

This has been another challenging year across the South East with tough environmental conditions, changes to funding and more recently, bushfires, all having an impact on our communities.

Our staff have been on the ground providing support to land managers and communities as we face these challenges together.

Staff from the South East have traveled to support our colleagues in the northern parts of the state as they tackled the devastating fires up there, and have brought that experience back home to deal with the North Black Range and Currowan fires.

Our teams have opened and staffed companion and large animal evacuation centres in recent weeks to provide support to those affected by the fires. We are now working with colleagues at NSW Department of Primary Industries to provide emergency fodder and water to eligible land managers as well as carrying out animal welfare and property assessments.

Our local teams have been working hard to provide support and advice around animal welfare, biosecurity, natural resource management and agriculture to help land managers and communities through the ongoing drought.

If you have come along to one of our workshops or field days, attended a webinar or course or even just dropped into an office or had a chat at a sale yard, thanks for your support, engagement and feedback. It really helps us refine the service we provide.

January 2019 marked the 5th year of Local Land services. We are proud of the services and support we provide to our communities and as we move forward into 2020 the South East board is focused on continuing this support through what looks to be a challenging time.

If you have any questions or concerns about the current conditions or how to make a plan to get through the holiday period and rest of summer, please contact your nearest Local Land Services office. We have six local teams around the region who are here to help.

Thanking you again for your support,
Allison
