Protecting our waterways

South East Local Land Services, via funding provided by the NSW Government’s Marine Estate Management Strategy, is providing support to land managers wanting to undertake on-ground riparian rehabilitation activities which will lead to clean, healthy waterways in our coastal and marine environment.
Funding is available for land managers located along estuaries, coastal lakes and wetlands or rivers that have salty or brackish water or are located on freshwater reaches no more than 2 km upstream of the tidal limit.
Priority catchments on the South Coast include:
- Minnamurra River
- Broughton Creek
- Shoalhaven River
- Lake Conjola
- Clyde River
- Tuross
- Moruya River
- Mollymook Creek.
Expressions of interest from other catchments will also be considered if submitted.
This funding is for on-ground activities including:
- Fencing, to exclude stock from waterways.
- Revegetation of banks and riparian areas.
- Works that protect or enhance native vegetation (e.g. bollards to manage unrestricted vehicle access, tree planting, strategic weed control and fencing).
- Works that protect and enhance threatened or endangered ecological communities such as Coastal Saltmarsh, Littoral Rainforest and Swamp Oak Forest.
The funding is open to public and private land managers, community groups and government organisations.
