Mallee Birds Endangered Ecological Community

The Mallee Birds Endangered Ecological Community (EEC) is a focus in the Western region.

We are working with NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, First Nations communities, private landholders and species experts to restore and enhance foraging and breeding habitats of priority bird species, including the malleefowl, black‐eared miner, striated grasswren, red‐lored whistler and regent parrot.

Work includes planning and data collection, assessing the condition of the EEC, prioritising locations for protection and threat abatement, establishing monitoring sites, supporting landholders with property adjacent to reserves to implement actions that improve habitat extent, and coordinated landscape-scale operations.

Grants will be available to eligible private landholders, and there will be opportunities for communities to engage with the work. Information about these will be promoted through our social media sites and e-newsletters as they become available.

This project is funded by the Australian Government Natural Heritage Trust.

More details about the project will be coming soon. To find out the latest news and advice for your region, subscribe to one of our newsletters.
