Strong Culture - healthy Country

The Strong Culture–Healthy Country project is a focus in the Northern Tablelands region and is a First Nations led project.

We are working closely with First Nations communities, private landholders, Landcare groups and species experts to improve the condition of the critically endangered box gum grassy woodland ecological community.

Additional species to benefit from the work are the endangered Bell's turtle (Wollumbinia bellii) and the critically endangered regent honeyeater (Anthochaera phrygia).

The work includes nest protection and pest species control, in addition to supporting First Nations communities to:

  • apply their cultural practices and responsibilities
  • learn and share traditional ecological knowledge through cultural burns and revegetation.

This project is funded by the Australian Government's Natural Heritage Trust.

More details about the project will be coming soon. To find out the latest news and advice for your region, subscribe to one of our newsletters and learn more about how we work with First Nations communities
